from blue & Cordelia -

In reaction to today's bombardements of Qana which killed more than 50 civilians among them 37 children 400 people demonstrated today in Berlins Center.

The demonstrations was called for spontaneaously by several Lebanese and few German groups. The demonstration was mostly dominated by Hizbollah and Amal flags and chants which alienated many Germans, who constituted less than 5 percent of the demonstrators, but also annoyed communist and other leftist Lebanese and Palestinians who were present. As usual the Jewish Voice people and the Working Circle Near East took part.

It needs to be said, that Hizbollah sympathizers should keep it down a bit if they want resistance against the Israeli aggression to materialize in Germany. Most people in Germany are against the Israeli attacks, however they feel that they can't take an active stand, if their action could be interpreted as being pro-Hizbollah or anti-jewish. If such demonstrations are dominated by Hizbollah flags and Hassan Nasrallah pictures numbers will get smaller and smaller.

Und Deutschland-Fahnen hattet ihr auch dabei
egal

Communists do take sides in Lebanon!
Aaron Aarons

The comment in German, by someone who claims the mantle of communism, seems to be saying that there should be peace demos that don't take sides in the conflict.

But any genuine opponent of capitalist oppression must realize that imperialism is the sharpest manifestation of that oppression and that Isramerica is the vanguard of contemporary imperialism. Right now, Hezbollah are the frontline fighters in the anti-imperialist struggle and deserve all the support they can get!

I consider myself a communist. As such, I reject the use of empty "communist" sloganeering as an excuse for not taking sides in particular battles in the global war between imperialist capital and the great majority of the world's population.
