Statement of IIVQM

from !-Queer - 27.07.2005 15:33

Statement of The International Initiative for Visibility of Queer Muslims / Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 25th July, 2005 The International Initiative for Visibility of Queer Muslims condemns with a revolt the recent terrorist and barbarian acts committed “in the name of Islam” and wishes to clearly underline such disgusting deeds have no connection whatsoever with the proper understanding of Islam and Muslims’ mission in the world.

Being Muslims and yet an integral part of the LGBTIQ Movement, we testify it is possible to live in our faith without violent and medieval practices that must not be associated with the true nature of Islam and as such eradicated from the Muslim communities worldwide. Terrorist attacks in the United Kingdom and Egypt, as well as horrible killing of two innocent teenagers “because they have been caught in a homosexual act” in Iran, deserve strong international condemnation. Deeply concerned, we urge the political leaders, religious authorities, and human rights organisations across the world to do whatever is in their power in order to stop those who stand behind these shameful deeds. We express our most sincere condolence to all the relatives and friends of the victims of those anti-human and anti-Muslim acts.
